L'heureux lièvre

Il y avait une fois un lièvre qui demeurait dans une grande forêt. Un renard demeurait aussi dans cette forêt.Un matin le renard rencontra le lièvre. Le lièvre semblait très joyeux.
— Bonjour, mon cher ami, dit le lièvre.
— Bonjour, mon cher, répondit le renard. Vous semblez très joyeux ce matin.
— Oui, je suis très joyeux.
— Pourquoi êtes-vous si joyeux, mon ami?
— Je suis joyeux parce que j'ai épousé la chatte.
— Vous êtes très heureux, mon cher répondit le renard.
— Pas si heureux que vous pensez, dit le lièvre.
— Pourquoi n'êtes-vous pas très heureux?
— Parce que la chatte est cruelle. Elle a des griffes très aigües.
— Alors vous êtes malheureux, dit le renard.
— Oh, pas si malheureux, parce que ma femme est riche. Elle a une jolie petite maison.
— Alors vous êtes très heureux.
— Non, pas très heureux, parce que la maison été brûlée ce matin.
— Cela est très malheureux, dit le renard.
— Oh non, pas très malheureux, répondit encore le lièvre, parce que ma femme a été brûlée avec sa maison. Oui, elle et ses griffes ont été brûlées.
— Cela est heureux, dit le renard. Je pense que cela est très heureux. Je comprends pourquoi vous semblez si joyeux.
Et le renard dit adieu à son heureux ami, et partit.

Once upon a time, in a big forest lived a hare. A fox also lived in that forest. One morning the fox met the hare. The hare seemed very joyful.

"Hello, my dear friend", said the hare.

"Hello, my friend", answered the fox. "You seem very happy this morning".

"Yes, I am very happy."

"But why are you happy, my friend?"

"I am very happy because I married a cat"

"You look very happy, my dear", said the fox.

"I am not happy but I am sad" said the hare.

"Why are you not very happy?" said the fox.

"Because the cat is cruel. She has very sharp claws."

"So you are so unhappy", said the fox.

"Not so unhappy, for my wife is rich. She has a nice little house."

"So you are very happy"

"No, not very happy, because the house burned this morning."

"So you are very unhappy," said the fox.

"Oh no, not so unhappy, said the hare, because my wife too was burned in the house. Yes she and her claws are burnt. 

"That is good" said the fox. I think that is very good. I understand why you seem so happy.

And the fox said goodbye to the happy friend and parted.
